Life is Strange developer DONTNOD Entertainment confirms that a new game in the series is in the works. The developer also revealed how many copies the female-led game has sold across PC and consoles.
Fans of the episodic game have been clamouring for a follow up ever since the first series concluded, with people especially praising Life is Strange‘s female characters.
Life is Strange Sequel Confirmed; But Will It Be Gay?
In a brief video update posted to its YouTube channel, DONTNOD confirmed that a new Life is Strange game is on the way. Although the developer deigned to reveal whether the female protagonists from the first game, Max and Chloe, would make a return, in a Tumblr post the company did say that is “hard at work ensuring it is the very best game we can create.”
The developer has also revealed that it has been working on this new game since it released the boxed version of Life is Strange a year ago. But unfortunately, despite the game being somewhat far into development, DONTNOD says that fans should not expect the new game to make an appearance at E3 2017 in June.
The response from Life is Strange fans has been electric so far, but the question on many player’s lips is whether or not the yet unnamed follow up will feature any LGBTQ characters. The romantic tension between Max and Chloe in the first game struck a chord with many players, particularly gay and bisexual female fans, who loved the chemistry between the two girls.
In fact, the draw of the game’s female leads and their time-bending adventures has seen Life is Strange sell three million copies across PC, PlayStation and Xbox platforms. Admittedly, this reveal comes as little surprise given that the game is so popular that a Life is Strange live-action series has been announced, but anything that helps put to rest the suggestion that games with female characters don’t sell is alright by us.
