Gay game Let’s MEAT Adam promises thrills of both the sexy and scary variety. A murder mystery with multiple endings, it follows follows a gay social media star who finds himself trapped in a “real escape room death game.”
Let’s MEAT Adam Will Send Shivers (Both Good and Bad) Down Your Spine
In Let’s MEAT Adam, players take on the role of the titular social media star. He has 2 million followers on NowGram (a fictional version of Instagram) and moves to West Hollywood in Los Angeles, Calif. to take his career to the next level. Quickly befriending an actor named Vince, the two find themselves attending an invite-only escape room in a newly erected mansion. But it’s nothing like they could expect.
Adam and Vince wind up trapped in a “death game” and Let’s MEAT Adam will be deliciously dark. In an email, Team Smut of developer Soulsoft EA (not to be confused with game publisher EA) says “I have to admit scary and sexy do compliment each other” and that after making a more “light hearted” visual novel in the past, the newer title is an attempt at answering the question “when does the mix of sex and violence no longer stay sexy?”
Let’s MEAT Adam does feature some adult content, though “the characters [are not] all sexualized or made to be universally attractive like in a traditional bara game.” This is something which Team Smut says has been an area of criticism of the game as some players were expecting 80% of its content to be sexual.
Team Smut explains that “The sexual content lends itself to the game organically which surprised even me as I was developing and writing the script!” also saying that it “totally lent to the sense of danger and made this dark thriller…well darker.” Moreover, “sex and carnality is something that the flawed characters thrive on despite their situation and judgment.”
The visual novel will deliver thrills in spades, then, but it also offers up some critical questions of gay culture too. Specifically an ‘obsession’ with vanity. “Vanity or one’s appearance is hyper-critical, especially in gay hookup culture, so what happens when vanity is linked to obsession, possession, exclusion, elitism and more?” asks Team Smut.
Admittedly, Let’s MEAT Adam “isn’t for everybody,” explains the developer. “But I think if you keep an open mind, most people will find it scary, thrilling, enjoyable and thought provoking.”
