Developer Guerrilla Games previously confirmed that it would add new narrative content to the game after revealing that Horizon Zero Dawn has sold over two million copies.
Horizon Zero Dawn DLC The Frozen Wilds Announced
The Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds DLC promises a “compelling new story” to play through, new characters and an “beautiful but unforgiving new area.” Here’s the official description:
“Beyond the northern mountains, the borderlands of the Banuk tribe challenge all who dare enter to survive the extremes. But now this frozen wilderness harbors a new threat, and for Aloy, a new mystery – one she’s determined to solve.”
Unfortunately the DLC does not have a release date beyond ‘2017’ but Sony has confirmed that you’ll need to own a copy of the base game to play it. Given that the female-led RPG has sold millions of copies on PS4, there’s a good chance that most people own the game already. Pre-ordering the DLC will also bag players an “exclusive” Frozen Wilds avatar.
Additionally, the DLC will come with PS4 Pro enhancements, including “dynamic 4K,” improved graphics and environments and “High Dynamic Range visuals.” Horizon Zero Dawn looks pretty great as is, but it’s good to know Guerrilla is pushing the PS4 to its limits.
As the saying goes, you can never have too much of a good thing. Horizon Zero Dawn‘s core story is fantastic and has been widely praised by fans and critics and if Guerrilla can deliver more of that good stuff then bring it on. We look forward to seeing more of the DLC ahead of its release on PS4 later this year.
