During its E3 2017 press conference, Ubisoft announced multiplayer pirate game Skull and Bones. Building on the incredible open-world adventure Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, Skull and Bones will also feature female pirates.
Skull and Bones isn’t the only upcoming Ubisoft game promising female characters, with Beyond Good and Evil 2 featuring women prominently in its trailer too.
Ubisoft’s Skull and Bones Has Playable Female Pirates
Skull and Bones is a multiplayer pirate game set in the Indian Ocean, that’s described as “an untamed frontier full of lavish riches.” In said ocean, players will be able to collect pirate ships as they put together a “lethal fleet,” attack trade routes, and team up with others to take enemies.
Positively, Skull and Bones will let players get up to naval hijinks as a female pirate according to the above cinematic and a separate developer walkthrough which can be found here. Ubisoft has yet to show off Skull and Bones character customisation features but non-white characters can also be spotted in the trailers too, indicating that all players will be able to play a character that looks like them.
And speaking of customization, Ubisoft also promises plenty of ways to deck out your ship. The company says that some of these will be cosmetic, including putting a giant golden skull on your Skull and Bones vessel in order to intimidate multiplayer opponents.
Other Skull and Bones gameplay features include player versus player (PvP) modes. Shown in another trailer is the Loot Hunt 5v5 multiplayer mode that sees players hoover up more loot than the enemy team to win. Expect things to get tactical as they use their scope to identify what sort of ship the enemy is sailing (tank Frigate, up close Brigadine and sniper Sloop-of-war) and fight them accordingly.
Ubisoft also says that the wind in Skull and Bones could be life or death. Players will have to use the wind to their advantage in battle; or when they’re trying to escape as failing to do so could prove to be lethal. Additionally, seasons of DLC with new locations and time periods have been teased too so expect this to be one massive game.
Skull and Bones will launch in fall 2018 on Windows PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
