Horizon Zero Dawn developer Guerrilla Games is “itching” to make more of the game. At E3 2017, managing director Hermen Hulst revealed why the developer was so keen to make Horizon Zero Dawn DLC, The Frozen Wilds.
The comments will also inspire more rumours about a Horizon Zero Dawn sequel. Fans have speculated that an entirely new game is on the cards ever since Guerrilla revealed that the game has sold over two million copies.
Horizon Zero Dawn Sequel, More DLC On the Way?
Speaking during a PlayStation Live stream, Hulst said that the development team is just “itching” to make more of Horizon Zero Dawn. Hulst explained that after “you do your first open-world game, you finish the game [and] you have all the tools, all the technology, all the knowledge in order, so you’re kind of itching to make more of it”
Noting that there are a lot of people who have completed the game and collected its Platinum trophy, Hulst promised that The Frozen Wilds DLC is more “goodness” for fans. Hulst also said the add-on is “substantial” and adds “plenty of new stuff” including new challenges, quests, settlements and weapons. The director describes it as a “new chapter in Aloy’s journey.”
It’s unclear whether the release of The Frozen Wilds will scratch that itch, but many fans will be hoping that Guerrilla releases a Horizon Zero Dawn sequel or even more DLC. In a recent interview with The Telegraph, Sony Interactive Entertainment America president Shawn Layden said that “Hulst has got a very keen mind on where he wants to take Horizon and what the roadmap is – and that roadmap is expressed in multiple years. I think we’ll be in the Horizon business for a long time.”
Of course that’s not a confirmation that Horizon Zero Dawn 2 is happening but it seems unlikely that Guerrilla would just work on DLC expansions for years instead of a complete follow up. Fingers crossed.
