Media Molecule Confirms LGBT Pride Plans
In a post on its official website, Media Molecule reveals that it is “super excited” to take part in the London LGBT Pride celebrations later this week. The company explains that when PlayStation asked Media Molecule to be involved in its Pride plans, the “immediate” response was yes.
As part of its Pride involvement, Media Molecule will be walking in the parade behind the PlayStation UK float. The parade begins this weekend on July 8 at 1PM, beginning north of Oxford Street and Ms. Kitty Powers of Kitty Powers’ Matchmakers fame will be the queen of the float.
Attendees can also expect to see Media Molecule “vogue’ing the house down and trying to look as fabulous as [Kitty Powers] herself” and Sackboy will also be showing up. Media Molecule has also shared a piece of Pride-themed Sackboy art, so hopefully fans will be treated to seeing Sackboy in real life waving LGBTQ Pride flags proudly.
Media Molecule is not the only developer to have taken part in real-life Pride celebrations this year. Recently, Mass Effect developer BioWare shared its own experience from Pride, having walked in the the Edmonton parade with Pride-themed BioWare banners and flags.
The positive attitude to LGBTQ rights and the involvement in Pride celebrations is wonderful to see, but fans will also be eager to see this reflected in games. Proper representation in media also has an impact on the acceptance of LGBTQ people and players will be keen to see this happen too.
