Blizzard officially reveals new Overwatch hero Doomfist. Blizzard has been teasing the character for months, even tying information about Doomfist to the lore of the last new Overwatch character, Orisa.
Doomfist becomes the fourth character to be added to Overwatch post-launch, breaking the streak after three new female characters in a row.
Overwatch Doomfist Abilities, Lore, Release Date
Today, Blizzard announced Doomfist as the 25th Overwatch hero. In origins and developer update videos, the company explained that Doomfist is from Nigeria and serves as part of the council of leaders that runs the organisation of Talon. Reaper is another co-leader of the organisation which also counts Sombra and Widowmaker as members.
Doomfist will be an offense hero, with 250 health and is described as a “highly-mobile” and “powerful” frontline fighter. He also has a three star difficulty rating, which is the maximum that a character can have. Here are his abilities:
- Hand Cannon: Doomfist fires a short-range burst from the knuckles of his fist. Its ammunition is automatically regenerated over a short time.
Seismic Slam: Doomfist leaps forward and smashes into the ground, knocking nearby enemies toward him.
Rising Uppercut: Doomfist uppercuts enemies in front of him into the air.
- Rocket Punch: After charging up, Doomfist lunges forward and knocks an enemy back, dealing additional damage if they impact a wall.
The Best Defense…: Doomfist generates temporary personal shields when he deals ability damage.
Meteor Strike: Doomfist leaps into the sky, then crashes to the ground, dealing significant damage.
As for when Doomfist will be released – the character is already available on the Overwatch PTR (Public Test Region) on PC. An official release date for all PC players as well as players on PS4 and Xbox One has not yet been announced by Blizzard but based on the release schedules for Ana, Sombra and Orisa, it may only be a few weeks.
