Uncharted: The Lost Legacy could ‘potentially’ become a spin-off series, reveals developer Naughty Dog. The Lost Legacy features two female protagonists, Chloe and Nadine, as they hunt for ancient Indian artefacts.
The developer also releases new gameplay footage, confirming that Uncharted: The Lost Legacy will bring back the jeep gameplay from Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.
Could Uncharted: The Lost Legacy Become Its Own Franchise?
Speaking to GamesBeat, Josh Scherr the writer behind the game revealed that Uncharted: The Lost Legacy could be the future of the franchise. Scherr said that Naughty Dog “could” carry the game on as the next Uncharted series, adding that “potentially we could spin this off.”
However, “right now we’re just focused on getting this out the door, and then we’re focusing on Last of Us Part II. There are no plans for anything beyond this.” Scherr also explains that that “there are no plans for anything beyond this.”
Although Naughty Dog may not be planning a follow up right now, fans will point out that this isn’t the first time that the developer has hinted that more adventures could be in store for The Lost Legacy duo. Scherr previously teased that Naughty Dog could make more standalone Uncharted games while Shaun Escayg, another writer for the game, had doubts that the franchise was finished.
There are still a few weeks to go until Uncharted: The Lost Legacy is released and any spin-off plans would surely hinge on how well this game sells. The game does look like it could be a hit though, with fans voicing their enthusiasm for Chloe and Nadine’s dynamic and the fact that it gives them a new way to experience the series. If that enthusiasm translates into sales then Naughty Dog would have a much harder time saying no to making more.
Uncharted: The Lost Legacy will be released on August 22 on PS4.
