Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus DLC will add three additional protagonists, including a playable female character. Publisher Bethesda and developer MachineGames reveal the game’s season pass ‘The Freedom Chronicles‘ and teases its different episodes.
Wolfenstein 2 Playable Female Character, Black Protagonist Revealed
In Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus, players control BJ Blazkowicz in an alternate history where the Nazis have successfully taken over the United States. As the enemy tries to create a ‘Nazified America’ in which children are taught to praise the Fuhrer and everyone has to learn German, BJ is part of the resistance that’s fighting to take the country back.
The game’s season pass, The Freedom Chronicles ($24.99 US / £17.99 UK / $34.95 AUS), will also focus on the resistance but players will no longer be playing as BJ. Instead, over the course of four episodes players will be introduced to playable female character Jessica Valiant, black protagonist Joseph Stallion and Captain Gerald Wilkins.
Here are the descriptions for the episodes:
- The Adventures of Gunslinger Joe – As former professional quarterback Joseph Stallion, smash through Nazi hordes from the ruins of Chicago to the vastness of space!
- The Diaries of Agent Silent Death – As ex-OSS agent and assassin Jessica Valiant, infiltrate Nazi bunkers in California and discover the secrets of Operation San Andreas!
- The Amazing Deeds of Captain Wilkins – As the US Army’s renowned hero Captain Gerald Wilkins, embark on a mission to Nazi-controlled Alaska to dismantle Operation Black Sun!
- Episode Zero – A prequel chapter that features all three characters of The Freedom Chronicles and promises “unique abilities and an arsenal of guns.” It will be released first and is available to anyone who pre-orders the game.
Although the Wolfenstein 2 reveal trailer was bold and brash and gave people exactly what they were looking for – a chance to stick it to the Nazis – some were a little disappointed that the story would only be told from BJ’s perspective. The resistance movement would be diverse, as indicated by the black woman who brings BJ into the resistance force, and some argued that it would be a shame if players didn’t get to experience their view of what’s going on.
Unfortunately, Bethesda and MachineGames have yet to show the DLC in action and as is always the case, it’s advised not to pre-order to pre-purchase before you have the full information. Nonetheless, we do look forward to finding out more.
Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus will be released on October 27 on Windows PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
