Nintendo reveals ‘Lola Pop,’ a new female character for ARMS. A brand new IP, ARMS is a Nintendo Switch exclusive fighting game that features fighters with extendable limbs.
The ARMS character roster already includes several playable women, including Twintelle, who is one of few black characters in Nintendo video games.
ARMS Female Character ‘Lola Pop’ Revealed
Lola Popa is ARMS newest fighter and Nintendo describes the female character as “a well-traveled clown with a personality as colorful as her clothing.” Her key ability is “inflating her body like a balloon, providing her with great defensive qualities.”
Lola’s abilities are on show in the toothachingly-sweet new trailer above. Not only can the character’s body inflate and block punches from opponents but she can also turns her own arms into nets, which seems to reflect the foe’s punch back at at them. Lola also twirls nunchucks and can hit an opponent with a trio of stamps which temporarily restricts their version; it’s a nice touch, given the clown theme.
In addition to the new female fighter, the next free ARMS update will introduce a new stage as well. This is the confectionery themed plaza where Lola’s fight in the trailer takes place. Macarons and lollipops are dotted about the place and cakes seemed to be piled upon tables too.
If you haven’t tried out ARMS yet then Nintendo is giving people a chance to play the game for free this weekend. The ARMS Global Testpunch will run from 8 a.m. PT Friday, Aug. 25, through 2 p.m. PT Sunday, Aug. 27. Taking part is free, Nintendo explains, all people have to do to take part is download the ARMS Global Testpunch software to their Nintendo Switch and they will be able to jump into online multiplayer matches once the event begins.
