Activision and Bungie and release new trailers for Destiny 2, highlighting the game’s female characters. Ikora Rey and Suraya Hawthorne get the spotlight as fans learn more about the two figures and how they will fit into Destiny 2‘s story.
Destiny 2 was announced earlier this year, with Activision and Bungie confirming that first-person shooter series will finally be making its PC debut.
Destiny 2 Ikora and Hawthorne Trailers Released
Ikora Rey, a new Destiny 2 trailer explains, is fearless, peerless and merciless too. A well-respected Warlock and a Champion of the Crucible, Ikora had a significant role in the first game as she employed spies and handed out missions. She is expected to feature just as heavily in the sequel.
Ikora can be seen taking out one the Cabal’s ships as Ghaul’s forces take out the Tower and she looks to be one of the leading forces in the resistance that is trying to take him out. Voiced by Gina Torres, Ikora also has some great interactions with Cayde-6 (voiced by Torres’ former Firefly co-star Nathan Fillion) and it’s little wonder why the character is a fan favourite.
Another Destiny 2 female character who is sure to feature prominently in the game is Suraya Hawthorne. A new character for the sequel, Hawthorne is the founder of “The Farm” social space where Destiny 2 players can hang out. Her character is incredibly determined and her trailer explains that “when all was lost, she stayed to fight.”
Although Hawthorne will also be a ‘clan steward,’ her role seems to go far beyond administration. A freedom fighter with a sniper rifle, Hawthorne notes that herself, Ikora, Commander Zavala and Cayde-6 are “pretty good at shooting bad guys.” She also prefers ponchos over capes, which is a rather bold fashion statement.
While it’s positive to see Destiny 2‘s cast of characters is diverse and that Bungie recognises that the future wouldn’t look so homogeneous (despite its sci-fi setting), Ikora and Hawthorne will not be the only female characters making an impact in the story.
The player character can also be a woman and will avoid the dreaded boob armour that so often occurs when women are included games. There’s not long to wait now until players can customise their characters, meet Ikora, Hawthorne and co. and take on Ghaul’s forces.
Destiny 2 will be released on September 6 on PS4 and Xbox One and on October 24 on Windows PC.
