Sony officially reveals the PlayStation Plus free games line-up for September 2017. inFamous: Second Son, the open-world superhero game with a Native American protagonist, will be one of several titles available to PS Plus subscribers next month.
inFamous: Second Son sold incredibly well when it was released in 2014, as the PS4 exclusive sold over one million copies in just nine days.
PlayStation Plus September 2017 Free Games Confirmed
inFamous: Second Son headlines the list of free PlayStation Plus games for September 2017. The game stars Native American protagonist Delsin Rowe as he must use his powers to fight back against the anti-superpower organization, the Department of Unified Protection (D.U.P.)
One of the first major PS4 exclusives, inFamous: Second Son was praised for the way it made use of the new console’s power. However, it was also heralded for being one of few games to feature a Native American lead. While there are some standouts such as Connor Kenway, the lead of Assassin’s Creed 3, the representation has been few and far between.
Moreover, when other games have attempted to include Native American characters or culture, they have failed to do so accurately or respectfully. Killer Instinct fighter Thunder received changes following feedback from the Native community, while Blizzard continues to draw backlash for culturally appropriative Native skins in Overwatch. inFamous: Second Son being available for free can at least give more PS4 players a chance to experience Native representation that seems to get it right.
In Europe, PlayStation Plus members will also get Child of Light, the Ubisoft RPG with a female protagonist. PlayStation VR sports game RIGS: Mechanised Combat League, and party title That’s You are on PS4. Truck Racer and Handball 2016 will be available for PS3. Meanwhile, Hatoful Boyfriend and We Are Doomed can be played on PS4 and/or PlayStation Vita.
In the United States, PlayStation Plus members will pick up Strike Vector Ex on PS4, along with Hue (on PS4 and PS Vita) and Sky Force Anniversary (PS3, PS4 and PS Vita.) Monster Strike Battlegrounds and Hustle Kings are the PS3-only titles.
