Sci-fi horror game ECHO gets a terrifying launch trailer. ECHO stars a female protagonist named Em who must battle against an artificial intelligence and enemies who look exactly like herself.
ECHO is a Creepy Sci-Fi Game with a Female Protagonist
In ECHO, the new game by indie developer Ultra Ultra, players take on the role of female protagonist En. After spending over 100 years in stasis, En has awoken and has arrived at the Palace, an ancient location with plenty of secrets. En is there to use technology to “bring back a life that shouldn’t have been lost” but her task will be far harder than it seems.
As En makes her way around the Palace, it studies her and learns from her, creating enemies (called “ECHOES”) who look and act just like she does. So when En is stealthy, her enemies will learn to be stealthy too, for example. When the Palace goes through its “blackouts” and reboots itself, players will have the freedom to do as they please with no consequence, but when the lights come back on the ECHOES will be stronger than before.
Ultra Ultra is a team of former Hitman developers and so they know how to do stealth well. ECHO seems to embody the exact same sort of challenge and seems to ask the same things of players as the iconic assassination game franchise. How will players achieve their aims in the most efficient way possible? And how can they avoid kicking the beehive?
Just like Hitman‘s Agent 47, En’s origin is massively shrouded in mystery too and discovering the connection between En, the palace and the man that she has to bring back from the dead are keys parts of the game’s narrative. And, just like Agent 47, ECHO stars some stellar voice talent as En is voiced by Game of Thrones‘ Rose Leslie.
But has all of that experience paid off? And has Ultra Ultra made a game worthy of the video game hall of fame, the way Hitman has cemented itself? The verdicts are still rolling in but ECHO is now available and you can play it for yourself.
ECHO is out now on Windows PC and PS4.
