Warner Bros. Interactive and Monolith Productions reveal a brand new trailer for the Middle-earth: Shadow of War expansion pass and details of the game’s DLC. The new video includes footage of the game’s female protagonist in action.
Shadow of War‘s playable female character Eltariel was first introduced in a trailer at E3 2017, where she was presented as a helpful but unlikely ally to male main character, Talion.
Middle-earth: Shadow of War DLC Details Confirmed
Warner Bros. and Monolith confirm that Middle-earth: Shadow of War DLC expansion, the Blade of Galadriel, will be released in February 2018. The DLC sees players assume the role of Eltariel, a “elite” assassin who is known as the Blade of Galadriel.
As Eltariel, players will “go head-to-head with the newest addition to the ranks of the Nazgûl”, using her dual Elven blades and “new combat abilities” to take down enemies. You can see some of Eltariel’s combat prowess in action in the trailer above – it’s not much but it’s clear that the Orcs are no match for her.
Additionally, players will “encounter memorable new Nemesis characters”, “gain eight unique Legendary Orcs who can return to join your forces in the main story campaign”, and unlock an Eltariel skin for the main campaign too. If it’s anything like the female character DLC for the first Middle-earth game, Shadow of Mordor, you’ll get to see Eltariel in all non-cutscene sections of the story.
Arriving in May 2018 is the Desolation of Mordor DLC. This next part of the Middle-earth: Shadow of War expansion pass puts you in the shoes of Baranor, the first black character in the Lord of the Rings universe. Baranor is described as “the Captain of Minas Ithil and survivor of the city’s demise”.
Baranor’s story DLC sees the new character commanding “the forces of Man against a new Orc threat to the East”. You’ll also get to meet up with Torvin (a Dwarven Hunter who can make you new weapons) and hire mercenaries to your army as you try to conquer Lilthad. Baranor’s commanding skills are also shown in the trailer but only for a few seconds. Plenty more footage is expected before the DLC is released.
Additionally, this DLC unlocks a Baranor skin for the main campaign and includes a “rogue-like campaign” mode where you try and survive without the power of a Ring. Scant details are available on this new feature but it sounds as though it will provide Shadow of War players with a mighty, new challenge.
