Final Fantasy 15 gets a new DLC expansion that introduces playable female characters to the game. ‘Comrades’ is a multiplayer expansion that follows Chapter 13 of the single-player story campaign.
Final Fantasy 15 Multiplayer DLC ‘Comrades’ Released
Square Enix has now released the Final Fantasy 15 ‘Comrades’ multiplayer DLC expansion. Unlike the main single-player content which follows playable character Noctis and his friends, the Comrades DLC lets players design their very own playable character instead.
Part of this character creation includes the option of playing as a female character. You can choose from a range of different ethnicities, hairstyles and you can customize her clothing too. As hinted at by the character customization gameplay video below, there does seem to be a decent range of skin tones, including darker skin tones. If you skip to about 14:24 in the video, you can see the finished character, who looks rather badass in her leather get-up.
Final Fantasy 15‘s Comrades DLC expansion adds female characters after some criticized the game for being so focused on men and for its poor representation of women. Personally speaking, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with a game that focuses on male friendship but I do understand why so many fans are missing quality representation of female characters in the game.
For example, the most prominent female character in the game is Cindy, a mechanic who wears revealing clothes and has a cutscene purely designed as fan service (details over at US Gamer). It’s understandable why some fans are disappointed, as Cindy stands in stark contrast to Final Fantasy heroines such as Lightning (Final Fantasy 13).
The Comrades DLC rectifies that a little, allowing Final Fantasy 15 players to make their own female characters in their own vision, or maybe even looking to Lightning for a little inspiration. The DLC is available now as part of the Final Fantasy 15 expansion pass or standalone for £15.99/€19.99/$19.99.
