A new social media post from Uncharted: The Lost Legacy developer Naughty Dog sparks discussion about whether the game’s two female protagonists are lesbians. Fans of the action-adventure series have long speculated about a romance between Chloe Frazer and Nadine Ross and this might just confirm it.
Naughty Dog has played up the dynamic between Chloe and Nadine before with one official trailer highlighting their unlikely friendship.
Uncharted: The Lost Legacy Lesbian Protagonists Confirmed?

In a post on Twitter last week, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy developer Naughty Dog wished its fans “happy holidays” with a new artwork. The newly revealed art features the game’s two female protagonists looking rather shy as they stand under a sprig of mistletoe, and it seems to suggest that Chloe and Nadine are feeling a little flushed at the thought of kissing one another.
The art is certainly a cute way of saying ‘seasons greetings,’ and many appreciate that Naughty Dog has included other holidays and faiths (not just Christianity and Christmas) too. But many fans, particularly lesbian and bisexual female fans of the Uncharted series, have latched onto this and wonder if it is confirmation that there is a romance between Chloe and Nadine.

One of the most popular replies to Naughty Dog’s tweet is actually a piece of fanart by Marriane Khalil depicting the next ‘scene,’ in which Chloe and Nadine do actually kiss under the mistletoe. It’s adorable and just highlights how enthusiastic fans are that Uncharted: The Lost Legacy may have two Sapphic leads.
Admittedly, this isn’t an outright confirmation that either of the two women are into each other. Naughty Dog has not explicitly stated that either of them are lesbians or bisexual (Chloe and Nathan Drake dated previously in canon). Though some fans have pointed to the developer’s support for inclusive video games and games with better representation of marginalized people.

Moreover, some fans argue that there is heavy romantic subtext between Chloe and Nadine throughout Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. In one scene, captured in the tweet above, Nadine appears to look at Chloe’s chest after she exhales. It’s unclear whether that was included in the game on purpose but it seems like a stretch to suggest that this was unintentional gaffe as a result of poor editing. Glitches happen but this most definitely is not a bug.
Chloe and Nadine wouldn’t be the first gay or lesbian characters in a Naughty Dog game, or even the first lesbians lead. Ellie from The Last of Us is a lesbian, as confirmed in standalone DLC The Last of Us: Left Behind. Ellie is also the female protagonist of The Last of Us: Part 2 and fans are hopeful that Naughty Dog will not retcon or totally gloss over her sexuality in the upcoming game.
Fans might just be being optimistic or Naughty Dog could really be hinting at a Chloe/Nadine (Chlodine as they’re known to fans) romance, we just don’t know. However, Naughty Dog has teased that Uncharted: The Lost Legacy could become a spin-off series, so fans may get to see more of Chlodine’s relationship (romantic or platonic) sometime soon.
