Lizard Hazard Games announces the Your Royal Gayness release date. The game, which has been described as a gay fairy tale parody, also gets a brand new gameplay trailer detailing what players will get up to when the whimsical title launches.
Your Royal Gayness‘ release follows a successful crowdfunding campaign last year. The game raised over $7,000 on Kickstarter.
Your Royal Gayness Gameplay Offers Fantasy Gay Antics
Lizard Hazard Games confirms that Your Royal Gayness will be released on January 25, 2018. The developer says that it plans to finish implementing features and any bug fixes by January 20 before submitting the build to Steam for “inspection.” The game will also be available via itch.io.
As the above gameplay trailer explains, Your Royal Gayness follows a gay prince who has been left in charge of the kingdom by his parents. The prince will have to rule over his kingdom, including setting laws (e.g taxes, how much to spend on security, and equality) and finding himself a spouse.
However, while his suitors are all women, the prince is gay. Players will have to come up with convincing excuses for why he is unable to marry these potential wives, with reasons ranging from the reasonable “I can’t stop thinking about my mom” to the ridiculous “the castle is overrun with spiders.” The prince must avoid raising “suspicion” which apparently involves rebuffing advances from other handsome princes, too.
Judging from this side of the release date, it does seem as though Lizard Hazard has gotten the balance between silliness and seriousness right. Your Royal Gayness looks like a lighthearted look at the issues faced by gay people who aren’t out, rather than a more heavy-hitting approach.
It’s certainly more tongue in cheek compared to the way that other games look at it and that’s probably why so many backers pledged to support the game. Thankfully, fans don’t have long to wait until they can get to judge Your Royal Gayness for themselves.
