Compulsion Games reveals some We Happy Few female character gameplay in a new development update. The developer also announces that its upcoming survival and exploration game has been delayed until summer.
We Happy Few is one of the games on our list of 30 games with female protagonists in 2018 that you should be excited for.
We Happy Few Female Protagonist, Updated Release Plans Revealed
In a development update video, Compulsion Games chief operating officer Sam Abbott explains that “we need a bit more time than we had anticipated” in order to complete development of the game. We Happy Few had been scheduled for a full release in April, but the new release window is now summer 2018.
Because of this delay, at the end of January 2018 Compulsion Games will temporarily disable the buy button on Steam that allows people to purchase We Happy Few in early access. It will be issuing refunds to anyone who purchased the game in early access. Compulsion Games says that it will enable the buy button again closer to launch.
Abbott also explains that this delay stems from the team’s desire to have “memorable,” “funny,” and “super weird” moments in the game’s story mode. The first two hours of (playable character) Arthur’s story just didn’t match up, forcing the developer to go back to the drawing board in order to make significant changes. These changes include bringing forward some of the moments that happen later in the game.
Speaking of playable characters, Compulsion Games also teased the story of We Happy Few female protagonist Sally. Sally has previously been seen in concept art for the game (above), but this gameplay footage provides an actual glimpse at what the female character will be getting up to.
According to the brief gameplay snippets, part of Sally’s story will involve sprinting from unhappy citizens of Wellington Wells and spraying them with some sort of substance in order to slow them down. In other clips, she can be seen somersaulting over laser beams and having a mesmerizing effect on a male NPC. Sally will also meet up with Arthur at some point as the two seem to be good friends.
With a few months to go until the game’s full release, Compulsion Games will reveal more concrete details about Sally, her story, and her connection to the other We Happy Few playable characters in the run up to launch. Watch this space.
