EA reveals how well The Sims 4 DLC is performing and how much of an impact the game makes on its bottom line. The video game publisher also provides an update on The Sims Mobile, revealing a little more information about its release plans for the mobile game.
Here’s How Much Money The Sims 4 is Making
During its latest investor call, EA revealed that in the last fiscal quarter which ended on December 31, 2017, The Sims 4 “delivered the highest-performing expansion pack to date during the quarter.” This means that The Sims 4 Cats and Dogs expansion pack, which released in November 2017, is the biggest selling DLC expansion pack that EA has released for the game so far.
In this quarter EA made $787 million from live services (digital purchases including DLC downloads and microtransactions) which is an increase of 39% year on year. Sales of The Sims 4 DLC, as well as FIFA 18‘s Ultimate Team mode, were reportedly the key drivers of this increase.
The huge performance of The Sims 4 DLC may come as little surprise to fans who enjoy the life simulation series so much. Future DLC, such as the teased witches and wizards expansion pack, is also poised to interest fans and make bank for The Sims 4 publisher. Moreover, EA confirmed that The Sims Mobile is set to launch before March 31 of this year and this could also be a significant money-maker for the company.
But the new figures have also left some fans feeling frustrated. EA recently announced plans to increase prices of The Sims 4 DLC, citing shifting currency values in several territories. With the knowledge that EA is making more money than ever from the sales of this DLC, fans want to know why EA can’t just absorb the regional price differences as a show of good faith to the game’s community.
