Despite Activision hooting and hollering from their piles of money that for now, the Call of Duty franchise is steering away from the Modern Warfare line of games, a leak from one of the developer’s own employees confirms that Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 is on the way.
Back in May, Sledgehammer Games were adamant that their team were absolutely not working on Call of Duty : Ghosts, the next game in the FPS franchise’s line up, but this was because they were working on an a different Call of Duty game altogether. The Modern Ware 4 confirmation comes from Rob Valdivia, a VFX Artist on the title, who, unwary of the dangers of being a dev with social media, revealed on professional networking site, LinkedIn, that he is “responsible for developing photo real visual effects for the next Call of Duty – Modern Warfare release”.
You can see the screengrab below, but the actual posting is nowhere to be seen on Valdivia’s LinkedIn, hastily removed after either he, or more likely, one of the higher ups at Sledgehammer Games, pointed out that Modern Warfare 4 hasn’t even been announced yet. The posting, if innocent, would probably still be there, but the removal effectively confirms it that yes, our next dose of modern time face-shooting, quadrotor controlling and UAV-calling, is somewhere near on the next-gen horizon.
The Modern Warfare 4 reveal is also inline not only with Sledgehammer’s goal for the future (that’d be the photo realistic visuals then) but it also coincides with a huge hiring spree that took place earlier this year, where the team began to recruit fresh talent for this thing. Hardly a surprise to anyone as this is one of Activision’s biggest cash cows (if you like your beef served with a side of ragequitting and premium DLC, that is), but we’ll keep you posted on any more big news.
