Video game consoles aren’t ‘video game’ consoles any more, they’re fully fledged media boxes, with TV shows, movies, games and music ready to sap away our free-time and attention like a leaky dam at the touch of a button and a flick of an analogue stick. We shouldn’t have to decide between a quick gaming session or catching up on our favourite show when both are available in the same package. So with that in mind, what would happen if the two types of media merged and 20 hour gaming epics were whittled down to concentrated 40 minute bursts of television entertainment? It would be incredible, that’s what. Read on to find out our top picks for the best games that would make brilliant TV shows.
How was your Valentine’s Day? Did you have a wonderful evening spending time with your loved one, eating a myriad of clichéd heart-shaped foods, or was it an abysmal, depressing turn of events, that resulted in a lovesick mess of feelings?
Just imagine being able to trade in that terrible company to hang out with (or even romance) one of the video game characters of your dreams, in either a ‘best bro’ or a ‘future Mrs. Video Gamer’ sort of way…
Like an overbearing mother who cares too much about the company you keep (but ultimately means well!) I’ve put together a list of the top 5 video game characters who would have kept you in high spirits during Cupid’s own holiday.
Between the hype about The Last Of Us and the questions surrounding the Arkham City sequel you’d be forgiven for missing the spectacular gameplay video that Irrational Games showcased at the VGAs last night.
Wait a minute, who am I kidding? I REVOKE ALL FORGIVENESSS!
I can feel it in my analogue stick twiddling thumbs that this game going to be mind-blowing, like actual chunks of brain pieces on your TV screen sort of epic. Of course I haven’t played it yet (though you can have a kidney if you can hook me up) but I’m already suffering from premature verbal diarrhoea in preparation for all the nice things that I’ll probably end up saying about it.
It’s understandable if you missed the trailer during the original airing (god knows I’d love to have the VGAs scrubbed from my memory – more on that tomorrow) but it should be a punishable offense for you to miss it the gameplay footage this time round.

It’s a little known fact that November is actually the best month on a gamer’s calendar. Sure, December is wonderful with Christmas being an excuse to stuff your face and get chocolate wasted, but does the final calendar month have the release of Uncharted 3? No. Does it have the release of Modern Warfare 3? Again, that’s a no. And the most important reason that November trumps the month of Yule? Well, November is “Movember”.
For those of you out of the loop, Movember is the annual event that takes place worldwide throughout the entirety of November. Men (Mo Bros), cheered on my the women in their lives (Mo Sistas), shave their faces on the 1st of the month and spend the remaining 29 days growing, grooming and perfecting the almightiest example of facial hairiness that they can come up with. It’s not just for lulz though, the occasion is actually to raise money and awareness for men’s health (specifically prostate cancer).
To kick off the month of ‘tache appreciation, I’ve put together a list of the best razor-dodgers in gaming, enjoy! (Info on how to donate to the Movember cause is at the bottom of the post).
