For all the talk about Marvel’s somewhat unenthusiastic approach to gaming, the company has actually produced a whole lot of games over the years. We’ve talked about Marvel Avengers Academy before, and it’s only one of a handful of very popular mobile games.
There’s also a major MMO, a batch of LEGO games, and the successful Marvel vs. Capcom fighting series. It’s true that Marvel hasn’t necessarily been leading the way in top-of-the-line console developments, but it’s not as if they haven’t been creating playable experiences.
In fact, they’ve churned out so many games over the years it can be a little bit difficult to keep track of them all. With that said, here’s a quick look at five Marvel video games you may not have heard of.
Earlier today, Nintendo lifted the lid on its brand new console, the Nintendo Switch. In addition to working as a home console, it also has a tablet like device that you can pick up, attach a couple of controllers to the sides of and take on the go just like a 3DS.
While the console is being seen as ‘what the Wii U should have been,’ the Switch is also being seen as a real rival to both the PS4 and the Xbox One. And not just because the idea of a home console/handheld hybrid is ridiculously cool, either; the games and third-part support confirmed for the Switch is also winning people over.
In Ubisoft’s upcoming fighting game, For Honor, players can choose between three factions: samurai, Vikings and knights. However, while players will have to choose a faction, they are offered plenty of freedom over their actual playable character, with Ubisoft giving them to option to customise their features.
In a new interview, the game’s director Jason Vandenberghe discusses For Honor’s various character customisation features (such as the ability to play as a female character). Vandenberghe also explains why these features were so important to the development team at Ubisoft Montreal.
Promising a globe-spanning adventure and puzzle/monster-battling gameplay, RPG Dead Century offers plenty of likeable features. That’s why it was such a surprise when the mobile title failed to achieve its crowdfunding goal when it sought to raise $95,000 on Kickstarter in 2014.
But despite developer Science Brigade’s failed attempt at raising funds for the game, development continued. Dead Century has now been released on iOS, offering some absolutely gorgeous, hand-drawn art and featuring a range of diverse protagonists as it aims to be inclusive to all players. Over the past few weeks, players of Blizzard’s massively popular first-person shooter, Overwatch, have been discussing which character would be added to the game next. As players came up with theories, scouring the in-game maps, going through character voice overs and examining the lore, Blizzard stoked the fire by releasing this teaser image.
As rumours and speculation continued to light up the web, Blizzard has finally confirmed just exactly who the new Overwatch character will be – Ana Amari. Ana Amari is a founding member of Overwatch and she is also Pharah (Fareeha Amari)’s mother. Going by ‘Ana’ in the game, the new hero is set to be a fan favourite and you can find out more after the break.
When Don Bradman Cricket 17 launches on PC and consoles later this year, the cricket sim will introduce a variety of new character creation features, allowing players to tweak more aspects of their in-game selves. Some of these features include a new lighting system for “photo realistic skin tones,” tattoos and the ability to choose a player’s role, mentality and batting position.
Moreover, Don Bradman Cricket 17 will introduce female characters. Developer Big Ant Studios says that this is a “first” for any cricket game and that it is committed to making sure that DBC17’s female characters are as “completely true to the sport as is possible.” Find out more after the jump.
From DayZ to H1Z1 and from Rust to Minecraft, the games industry is in no shortage of survival sims. But while the overcrowding of the genre might make some developers run a mile, Semaphore Lab has high ambitions for its Saudi Arabian survival sim Badiya, with the team hoping to use the title to change perceptions of the Middle East.
Announced earlier this year for PC, PS4 and Xbox One, Badiya is set just after World War 1 and will feature tanks, planes, boats, horses and, naturally, a whole lot of desert. As part of E3 2016, Semaphore has now released a brand new Badiya gameplay trailer showing some of these features off. You can watch the video after the break.
Initially announced in 2011, Prey 2 was meant to be a sequel to the 2006 sci-fi shooter Prey. However, following a sustained period of radio silence the game’s publisher Bethesda revealed that it had cancelled the game amid concerns that the game didn’t live up to its “quality standard.”
Understandably, fans were disappointed, as the Prey 2 announcement trailer suggested that the sequel had real potential. All hope is not lost, though, as following rumours that the project had possibly been revived, (Dishonored developer) Arkane Studios used E3 2016 revealed that it is developing a Prey reboot that can be played with either a male or female protagonist.
In Dishonored 2, players will assume the role as Emily Kaldwin as she leaves Dunwall and heads to the costal city of Karnaca, looking for a way to restore her to power after an “otherworldly usurper” seizes the throne. Playing as Emily also gives fans access to a new host of supernatural abilities, including the shadow-attack power teased in the Dishonored 2 announcement trailer.
Unfortunately, despite the unwavering excitement that people have for the game, developer Arkane Studios and publisher Bethesda have kept Dishonored 2 gameplay footage under wraps. Until now, that is. During the Bethesda press conference at E3 2016, fans finally got their first look at Dishonored 2 gameplay and it did not disappoint.
