Sometimes it takes a village to make a movement happen, sometimes it takes a lot of irate gamers being rightfully pissed off that your RPG doesn’t have any playable female characters and sometimes it takes the startling (read: totally common sense for anyone who has considered diversity in the workplace) statistic that putting more women on your game design teams leads to better games and more sales! Yeah, I’m definitely going to put money on the last two being the reason behind Capcom’s newly announced decision to encourage gender diversity in their workplace by promoting their female employees. There are a lot of questions as to what ‘promoting’ in this sense means and also if Capcom are talking more baloney than an American-made sandwich so read my thoughts and the like after the break.
