An unsurprising factoid of the day is that women in games are being left out in a huge, gaping and very much noticeable way – behind the games, in them and in terms of the women who play them. It’s a much talked about truth, we know it because we’ve experienced it time and time again, the fact that the characters attached to our D-pad puppet strings are men (and often white and straight), it’s something that I’ve even tried to quantify on this here site, in our Video Game Report but now we have even more hard evidence from the Women’s Media Center that suggests that things are worse than ever.
It’s nearly Christmas! Time to dust off that plastic fir tree from the cupboard under the stairs, prepare for a snowed in Winter of gaming and get ready to stock up on discounted PlayStation games that you downloaded in the PSN 12 Deals of Christmas sale.
As a bonus incentive for lurking around the PS Store’s menus during the holiday season, you’ll be able to bag yourself an awful lot of PS3 and PS Vita deals, some of which you can see after the jump.
FIFA 14 on next-gen is not what you expect. It’s not what you thought of in your wildest dreams and it’s not even encompassing what you wanted improved upon from EA’s previous attempt at perfecting the footie genre. If what EA say in this new FIFA 14 next-gen trailer is to be believed, it’s set to be so much better. Year on year we get incremental updates to the game; updated kits, more beautified blades of grass and that sort of thing but now, on next-gen it looks like EA Sports have finally accomplished something substantial. You can watch the new trailer discussing it all after the break.
Ever thought that the realistic football simulation of FIFA 13 just wasn’t enough? Did you spend more time complaining about the lack of lifelike virtual footballing animations than you did about letting in yet another goal to cheat character Lionel Messi? Apparently you’re not alone as EA are improving their football game even more with FIFA 14, citing ‘Pure Shot’ and ‘Real Ball Physics’ as the main features here, making us wonder that if this is the best then what the hell were we all playing before?
In FIFA 14, the players are reportedly going to have a few more smarts in their AI noggins than they did in FIFA 13, according to two members of the dev team in this new trailer. Smarter thinking is going to lead to an even more impressive range of goals and if you’re eagle eyed enough you’ll be able to see that even the airflow around the ball is taken into account with each shot.
Effectively, what EA are trying to say is that FIFA 14 will be ‘much, much better’ than its predecessor, and from what we’ve seen so far, we can only agree with them. You can watch the new FIFA 14 trailer after the break.

There’s still a while to wait for the real football season to begin but if you want to watch virtual men kick a ball about then look no further than reigning King of the footie genre, FIFA 14. One of the biggest draws of the series has always been the Ultimate Team mode and FIFA 14 Ultimate Team is apparently going to be even better.
We have just as long to wait for the real life players to start playing the beautiful game as we do EA’s sports leader, but lucky for us we’ve got trailers to keep us hopeful until then. The new trailer which focuses on FUT talks us through the brand new features of FIFA 14 Ultimate Team. New features include a chemistry update so that we can fine tune player styles to specific types such as ‘sniper’ or ‘engine’, so there’s really little excuse to blame your players for doing poorly on the pitch. But should you still do badly there are now 10 divisions in which to redeem yourself in, upgraded from FIFA 13’s 5.
Last but not least, one of the big talking points of the new trailer is that in FIFA 14 Ultimate Team, it’s now incredibly easy to transfer players in the game as EA Sports have finally added a search by name feature! No more league, nationality or team guessing as all you have to do now is double check the spelling on players like (Bayern Munich Midfielder) ‘Schweinsteiger’, so good luck with that one.
