Since Mafia 3 was announced, developer Hangar 13 has been keen to teach us more about the game’s protagonist, Lincoln Clay. A mixed-race war veteran in the 1960s (a time when racial tensions and the anti-war sentiment were both high), Clay also has to deal with the fact that many of the friends he treated as his ‘family’ have been murdered by the Italian mob.
We’ve also been offered tidbits about other mobsters that Lincoln will meet in the game (including Vito Scaletta who returns from Mafia 2). But, as it turns out, these aren’t the only ‘characters’ that we’ll be introduced to once Mafia 3 is released later this year. In a GDC talk that took place in March, systems designer Seth Rosen revealed how the game’s New Orleans setting is also being treated as a character of its own.
