Like most other game sites, we run on willpower, a non-existent budget and a love of gaming, but unlike other sites, J Station X is also fuelled by a whole lot of anger and a little bit of indignation that the video game industry that we know and love still continuously fails to represent women in games, people of colour and those who identify as LGBTQ. It’s for that reason that I’ve put together the first annual Video Game Diversity Report so that we can yell back statistics when the mob bangs on the door protesting that gaming must stay as a Straight, White Boys Club. Read my findings after the break.
The day is finally upon us! Laugh in the face of PS Vita early adopters and marvel in the popularity of HD upgrades as Assassin’s Creed Liberation HD has finally made its way to the PlayStation Store and the Xbox Live Marketplace. Fronted by the series’ first female protagonist, Aveline de Grandpré, the game makes the jump to the big screen, after an exclusive stint on PS Vita, bringing with it all of the charm of a tale about a woman fighting for both her heritage and her people. Ubisoft have just released the Assassin’s Creed Liberation HD launch trailer which you can see after the break.
This just in: when Square Enix said that Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition would include “Subsurface scattering technology implemented to capture the most physically accurate lighting simulation”, they weren’t playing around. The ‘Definitive’ in that title, is, for the most part thanks to all of the extra DLC goodies that come packed in with the game, but as these Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition screenshots show, the graphics that the PS4 and Xbox One only game will offer up too, are hardly anything to turn your nose up at. You can see them after the break.
‘It’s the most wonderful time of the year!’ chimes the classic holiday tune over the in-store speakers, but you know better. You have a mottled bruise on the left side of your ribcage that says that shoppers at this time of the year are rabid, vicious and will gladly shove you in the side to get the last copy of Battlefield 4 and you’ve had painful shin splints for the last 48 hours from making a mad dash around the aisle in a last ditch attempt to get a half decent gift for your gamer friend who probably has it already anyway. But you don’t want to go through all of that do you? We thought not, which is why we’ve put together this 2013 holiday gift guide for the gamer who has it all.
It seems that when you put one crack in the damn, the entire thing will start leaking, as spilling info like a gossip who’s just been told the juiciest secret in the world, Alien: Isolation screenshots have now been leaked onto the web after a source detailed Sega’s yet unannounced title. We previously learnt that the game would be far better than franchise predecessor, Aliens: Colonial Marines, and now with these Alien: Isolation screenshots looking as intriguing as ever, we might finally start believing the hype.
‘EA are the most gay friendly place to work in all of the games industry’, a bold statement? Absolutely. Is it one that can be backed up with real, actual, verifiable statistics? Again, yes. The Human Rights Campaign (HRC), who like to keep tabs on companies doing good, non-discriminatory things to their employees and treating them like plain old human beings, no matter how they identify, have rated EA a 100 out of 100 for equality in the workplace. But what does the publisher’s gay friendly status mean for their games?
In a reveal that’s about as well concealed as an elephant hiding behind a curtain, Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition was announced for next-gen consoles, PS4 and Xbox One, this weekend at the Spike VGX Awards 2013. We saw this one coming a mile off, mostly down to the fact that Amazon Italy leaked it a few weeks ago but now, letting their inconspicuous cat out of the bag, Square Enix have released a Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition trailer and announced the release date.
Living the life of an NBA baller isn’t all fun and games y’know. It takes years of hard work: from the gruelling workouts that push a player’s muscles to the very limit or the many hours logged on the practice courts as they fight with their minds to remember the seemingly endless amount of plays that they have to learn. Sound like a great deal of effort? Well then it’s a good job that in the virtual world it’s nothing like that! Watch the new NBA 2K14 MyCareer trailer after the break to find out more.
Like an ever faithful steam engine, good ol’ PlayStation Plus keeps chugging along. Passengers get a delectable buffet cart of free titles every month and like the Grade A hoarder that I am, I have yet to get through them all. So, every so often I take on a PS Plus title and test its mettle and this month’s challenger is…Remember Me.
Have you yet to take interest in Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag’s pirate antics and shanty singing? If incredible sea-based battles and the most rich, diverse landscape the series has ever seen aren’t enough, Ubisoft have released the Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag ‘Accolades’ Trailer, to give you at least three good reasons to buy the critically acclaimed title. You can watch the video after the break.
