DiscStorm, the upcoming arena combat/sports came from XMPT Games, could be one of the most exciting properties out this year. The game will be out in spring 2016 on PS Vita, but it’s coming to PC, Mac and Linux in August. You can find out more about it after the break.
When DiscStorm was announced last month, it was a total surprise but a pleasant delight. The game combines sport with tough as nails arena combat as players have to lob discs around the place to defeat AI opponents. It’s easy to pick up but difficult to master, says developer XMPT Games.
Being a sports-based title, DiscStorm is also perfect for multiplayer and so it allows up to four players to go head-to-head and knock the digital snot out of one another. The problem with multiplayer, however, is that there are only four characters and if three players get to make a decision, the last player has no choice but settle for whoever’s left.
That’s got to be disappointing and so XMPT has added a new character called ‘Navika’ to the mix.
Real sports are for chumps, what with their sweaty pit stains, neon looking energy drinks and ill-fitting lycra. So today, let’s embrace a virtual one instead.
DiscStorm has just been announced for PC, Mac and PS Vita by developer XMPT Games and publisher Mastertronic. The game combines disc throwing with death dealing to make a fast-based arena combat sport that can be played alone or with friends.
Frantic stick twiddling will be in order as you try and avoid the discs that are pinging off of every wall and gameplay is “easy to pick up, but truly difficult to master”. It sounds like a good one to wheel out at parties then. More on DiscStorm after the break.
